The Urban League Young Professionals of Metropolitan St. Louis is an auxiliary organization of the Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis, comprised of young urban leaders whose time, energy and talents are dedicated to improving the welfare of St. Louis community residents. The Young Professionals are committed to seeking innovative solutions to persistent social problems, such as economic empowerment, education, civil rights, civic engagement and financial management. Their goal is to form a cohesive group of young professional leaders who can leverage their collective experience, education, resources and talents towards improving the lives of those in need. 


OUR MISSION

The mission of the Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis, Inc. is to empower African Americans and others throughout the region in securing economic self-reliance, social equality and civil rights. 

    • Increase Community Involvement of members through its programs:
    • Strengthen leadership & professional development of members through organized directives:
    • Promote the Urban League and its mission; and 
    • Provide a comprehensive orientation to the Urban League movement for new members.


OUR VISION

As the leading champion of empowerment and opportunity for African Americans, the Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis envisions a region where all people:

    • Are valued members of the community;
    • Can adequately support themselves and their families;
    • Can live in neighborhoods that are vibrant and thriving; and 
    • Share in the region's prosperity and well-being.​


OUR STRATEGY

The Urban League will advocate for and empower African Americans and others in Metropolitan St. Louis by pursuing the following priorities:

    • Economic Opportunity: Creating ladders out of poverty through jobs, entrepreneurship and financial responsibility.
    • Educational Excellence: Providing access to quality education from pre-kindergarten through college. Creating an Urban League Leadership Academy to provide scholarships and internships for high school and college students.
    • Community Empowerment: Providing social safety net to stabilize our neediest families.
    • Civil Rights and Advocacy: Obtaining fair and equal treatment in all features of society and government in economics, social, educational and cultural. 


The National Urban League employs a five-point approach to provide economic empowerment, educational opportunities and the guarantee of civil rights for African Americans.

  • Education and Youth Empowerment ensures the education of all children by providing access to early childhood literacy, after-care programs and college scholarships
  • Economic Empowerment invests in the financial literacy and employ ability of adults through job training, home ownership and entrepreneurship
  • Health and Quality of Life Empowerment promotes community wellness through a focus on prevention, including fitness, healthy eating and access to affordable healthcare.
  • Civic Engagement and Leadership Empowerment encourages all people to take an active role to improve quality of life through participation in community service projects and public policy initiatives.
  • Civil Rights and Racial Justice Empowerment guarantees equal participation in all facets of American society through proactive public policies and community-based programs


The Urban League Young Professionals of Metropolitan St. Louis has been recognized as the Central Region Chapter of Excellence in 2009, 2011, 2012 and 2014.
