Urban League Young Professionals of Metropolitan Saint Louis

100 Neediest Cases Campaign

The Urban League serves over 1,000 low-income families through the United Way/Post Dispatch 100 Neediest Cases Programs. The Urban League also adopts over 300 families during the holiday season. The majority of adopted families receive numerous boxes containing items such as bed linens, clothing, shoes, appliances, etc. Families also receive gift certificates and financial aid.

The 100 Neediest Cases began in 1922 as an annual charitable campaign that selects 100 families and individuals during November and December. The sponsoring organizations and other charities absorb the administrative cost. Local organizations adopt individual cases, donate food, medications, household necessities, holiday presents, etc.

The ULYP of St. Louis, has had a long history of adopting UL families through the 100 Neediest.  As we continue to rebuild the chapter, continuing this tradition represents our core values of community support.  This year our chapter has adopted two family submitted by the Urban League.  With your support we hope to provide some much needed support during this holiday season of giving.

Story: M is a single mother of two children, ages 4 & 15. She is currently working as needed through a temp service. She is also studying for her high school diploma. She had to drop out after having her frst child. M has not been able to work many hours this year because business has been very slow. She is struggling to keep up on bills and meeting her children's needs.

M was put further in the hole in January 2024 due to her car catching on fre and having to purchase a new one. Some of her school belongings were destroyed in the car fire. She lost all her school notes, supplies, and laptop. Her children lost their backpacks with school supplies and some clothing due to her children having to stay overnight with a family friend when she does work. M does not have much family support to ask for any fnancial or emotional support when times are hard. She bought a new car because it is very hard relying on others to take the family back and forth to and from their schools. Ubers and Lyfts are just as expensive so she made the hard choice to buy a new car. She is working hard to better life for her and her children. Once she obtains her high school diploma, she plans to enroll into a nursing program to become a Registered Nurse. Becoming a nurse is her dream job! M and her family would highly appreciate any assistance that they receive. Wishing everyone a Happy Holiday!
